G’day, I’m Lyndon Phipps, self-confessed personal development junkie and fully-fledged member of the PDJAA (Personal Development Junkies Anonymous Association).
As a kid I was always a why child. Always asking why and how. I never really took school seriously, which is unfortunate as I got by with average marks without trying and believe I could have done extremely well by applying myself (as my teachers had said – should have listened). But even in this there was a learning experience. My insight was that I was more intelligent than people thought and defiantly more intelligent than I thought. When I say intelligent I don’t mean IQ. People who score well in IQ tests are people who think the same way as the people who create the test. I also believe we are all created intelligent. It’s just that we all learn differently. So if someone says you are dumb it’s possibly just because you are not like them.
Growing But Not Knowing It.
When I left school that’s where my real learning curve began. Holding several casual jobs all requiring different skill sets until finally scoring a job at the local abattoirs here in Dubbo. During this time I felt that I did not learn much as it was repetitive mindless work.
At work one day I went down to the loo, sat down and started staring at the door, focusing on the task at hand when I noticed someone had written on the door. It said “Meat workers are brain dead”. I began to laugh as it described how my brain felt and I could not argue with it. I could have chosen to get offended; instead I stared at the quote for some time and decided there in that cubicle that “Lyndon Phipps has to take responsibility and has to do something to stimulate his brain”.
Lyndon Stimulates His Brain.
I had heard that memorising things helped increase ones ability to learn and retain information so I started to memorise verses from the bible. The people I worked with would ask me to recite what I was learning to them to test me. They kept asking for one in particular. I will share it with you in the hope you will smile the same way they did when I said it (it seemed to take them to another place, a brief reprieve from the monotony of work for a time).
- Philippians 4:8 – And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Growing But Not Knowing It.
Finally I left the abattoirs and as I reflect on my time there I realise that for a time I may have allowed my brain to go to mush but the learning about people was invaluable. I appreciate the friends I made there and the lessons they taught me and there are times I think about them and feel a little sad as I miss the wonderful, intelligent characters there.
Needless to say after leaving the abattoirs I continued to stretch myself by taking on new responsibilities at work including manufacturing, freight and sales. I also took courses at tafe and listened to audios while I worked. Now here I am; a very different Lyndon Phipps, learning more and more about online things that I never thought I would learn. My wife Kerrie Phipps and I have now begun an online business – Create the Life Club.com – which seems to be my latest and steepest learning curve along with discovering new business systems.
So I thought I would blog about my learning as I believe that is the online thing to do
.
Inspired By My Wife
This was inspired by Kerrie doing her 100 days of gratitude blog, which can be found in the rss feed to the right. In the next 100 days I am working on the old saying you learn something new every day. So every day for 100 days I am going to write about 1 thing I have learned or discovered.
Without further adieu – Welcome to my One Hundred Days Of Discovery and I look forward to sharing my learning journey with you in the hope of enlarging my world and yours.
Blue skies
Lyndon Phipps.

SO much to embrace hey, its funny you know about a week ago, i challenged myself with staying grateful, then a few days later saw the 21days of gratitude challenge on TV morning show. Imagine what the globe would be like if we simply had a mental shift in this one area alone. Its not like complaining about the traffic is going to change anything other then our stress levels.
Looking forward to seeing you guys. Let Kez know i got her journal, so exciting the levels you guys are going to….
Keep going!!
Thanks Rach,
Looking forward to seeing you guys too.
Hi Lyndon,
Great to see your blog! I’ve admired Kerrie’s postings, since I joined Facebook and especially the 100 Days of Gratitude. Now I have another undoubtedly interesting blog to watch. We’ve both been through a learning process and it continues. As Kerrie knows, I faced a life changing situation in 2007 at the age of 53 which prompted me down the self development road, in particular with Tony Robbins but also with authors such as Daphne Kingsma and Stephanie Dowrick. I’ve learned a lot of good things – about gratitude, kindness, compassion, giving – things that many of us take for granted rather than think about in any detail. There remains much more to learn and I’m looking forward not only to my journey continuing but also to watching yours!
Cheers, Pete
G’day Pete,
Great to hear you took challenging time and made it productive. Thanks for reading my blog and for your encouraging words.
Enjoy the ride.
Blue skies
Lyndon
